At Juniper Village at Brookline, we believe our community extends beyond the walls of our campus.
Throughout the year, we look for ways to give back to our friends and neighbors in the region. Recently, one of the ways we put this passion into action was by donating food to two longstanding organizations: State College Area Meals on Wheels and the State College Food Bank.
State College Area Meals on Wheels prepares and delivers over 43,000 meals each year people living in the Centre Region. Each person receives one hot meal and a bag dinner on delivery days, which are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. With more than 150 volunteers and a staff team of three, over 1.4 million meals have been delivered since 1971! Juniper contributed in a small way by delivering fresh, juicy pears for meals. While all donations are appreciated, fresh produce is especially welcome in the cold winter months!
In a similar theme, each building on the Juniper Village at Brookline campus collected donations for the State College Food Bank. Shopping carts placed inside the lobbies served as a reminder of the campaign for several weeks. Residents, associates, family members, community partners, and university students responded generously to the call for support. When the food was gathered and delivered to the Food Bank, it weighed in at a whopping 847 POUNDS! The State College Food Bank was founded in 1982 and serves over 700 households annually, meeting nutritional needs of all ages.
