Juniper Village at Brookline is proud to partner with Genesis Rehab Services to provide on-site therapies throughout our campus. By working together, we can help community members and Juniper residents regain strength, independence, and wellbeing after surgery or an unexpected health issue.
Recently, Juniper and Genesis helped Ileene Feterolf from State College on her journey home. Ileene came to Juniper Village at Brookline Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation following a complicated hospitalization for sepsis. In order to safely return home, Ileene needed to improve her strength and endurance so that she could do things like walk around her home, get in and out of bed, and shower.
The interdisciplinary team customized Ileene’s program to meet her unique needs and goals. The therapists even provided one-on-one educational sessions to Ileene’s daughter so she could learn how to safely support her mother and help her thrive when she returned to her home environment.
Throughout her stay, Ileene remained focused and motivated, and often shared how happy she was to be working in the gym! When she was not in therapy, Ileene was inspired to exercise her creative muscles through poetry. To express her gratitude, Ileene presented a poem she had penned for the therapy team and shared, “Your therapists are truly the best and they work so hard to get people better.”
A Poem by Ileene Feterolf
So, what’s a therapist like?
Come to Juniper and see
Each one is very different
But their “goals for me” agree.
They set my mind on a very straight path
To help make sure I get well
Then diligently work on every step
So each gain is really a thrill!
First in mind is Jessie
She’s the new “boss”, you know
Hers the greatest share of paperwork
And she surely isn’t slow!
One thing about Jess that hasn’t changed
She still likes to really eat
But she does not gain and it doesn’t show
So she’s very thin and neat (and sweet!)
Did you hear an Elk Call? No?
Well our guy from Elk County sings!
Dustin is still our computer whiz
He can fix most anything!
One more thing about Dustin
You really out to know
He’s a super duper therapist
Just ask him, he’ll tell you so!
(Gotta love that Dustin)
Next meet lovely Sarah
Climbs glaciers, what a lass!
She a regular mountain climber
And climbs Mount Nittany with great class! (Go Sarah!)
Watch out when you see Kailey
Or be overcome with shock
You really could not miss it
She shows off that huge rock!
Kailey is an active one
Her Christmas tree is done
She’s busy going to parties
It keeps her on the move
Now what does Kailey do for fun?
Well just to name a few
She camps and skates and skis and such
And climbs up mountains too
JoAnna’s from Wisconsin
Where she earned her OT name
Softball is a love of hers
But pitching is her fame (check out that arm!)
Brendan is a New York boy
From another building by
But he comes to help when there’s a need
A good therapist, that’s no lie!
Judith posts appointments
Just so we don’t forget
To be on time tomorrow
The best penmanship seen yet! (Good job, Judith)
Levi came from Allentown
He’s our student helper friend
Levi’s trying to learn it all
From beginning to the end
Brett comes from Altoona
And works in Tyrone, too
He likes sports and shore line coars
But it’s therapy he likes to do (Brett is one of the best!)
Lori grew up near Milroy
Works out three times a week
She has three boys at home, she says
So its free time she would seek
They tell me John’s an athlete
At basketball he is a star
Two boys follow in his footsteps
Hoping Dad’s record not too near
David is out speech therapist
Comes from Kansas with great glee
But this gal already talks too much
He doesn’t need the likes of me!
(Do you have a “slow down” speech course?)
