HEALTHY ENVIRONMENTS

Green Canopy, Environmental Sustainability at Juniper
Being “Green” makes a difference in all of our worlds. It makes a difference to our staff who clean each day and who can be protected from harmful and toxic chemicals. It makes a difference to our residents who live in healthier environments with more natural light with more fresh air and with the knowledge that they too are contributing to making the world a better place for their children and grandchildren. It makes a difference to the community because we model environmental stewardship. We use fewer resources which are becoming scarce; things like water and energy.

Juniper has always been committed to making a difference in the world in which we live and work. Our mission is to nurture the spirit of life and as we do that for residents, we must too do it for the world in which we live. Healthier, more natural environments designed for sustainability are part of our commitment to the community and to being a socially responsible corporation. It is not enough to take care of elders; we must also take care of the communities in which we all live and work. Healthy environments mean healthier, longer and better lived lives.

Juniper’s commitment to the environment shows that we care a lot about everything we do. Ensuring that light bulbs are replaced with compact fluorescents, using Energy Star equipment and being an active participant in recycling programs show that we take the time and make the effort to create healthier, more life affirming environments. And you know, if we care enough to do this for the environment, it means that we are detail oriented, solution driven people who will work diligently to find the best ways to foster healthy and life-affirming environments for our residents, for their families and for our staff.

Juniper’s Green Canopy efforts include:
Using recycled paper with soy based ink for collateral materials. (Every ton of recycled office paper saves 380 gallons of oil.)
Using Energy Star appliances when and where ever possible. (Energy Star appliances use up to 50% less energy.)
Eliminating harsh cleaning chemicals and replacing them with H2Orange2, a hydrogen peroxide based cleaner that in different strengths cleans everything from clothes to driveways.
Replacing incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs where ever possible. (Replacing just one bulb keeps a half ton of CO2 out of the atmosphere over the life of the bulb.)
Using only low VOC (volatile organic compound) paint and carpet. (This ensures that we don’t contribute to greenhouse gases and improves indoor air quality.)
Replacing all faucets and shower heads with “low flow” equipment. (These faucets reduce water consumption by 50%.)
Recycling newspaper, glass and aluminum whenever possible. (Recycling one aluminum can save enough energy to run your television for three hours.)
Eliminating Styrofoam. (Each year Americans throw away enough Styrofoam cups to circle the earth 436 times!)
